A Novel Broadband Circularly Polarized Antenna Based on Off-Center-Fed Dipoles

ABSTRACT:

A completely unique broadband circularly polarized (CP) antenna is proposed. The operating principle of this CP antenna is totally different from those of conventional CP antennas. An off-center-fed dipole is introduced to attain the 90° section distinction required for circular polarization. The new CP antenna consists of 2 off-center-fed dipoles. Combining such 2 new CP antennas leads to a bandwidth enhancement for circular polarization. A T-formed microstrip probe is employed to excite the broadband CP antenna, that includes a straightforward planar configuration. It’s shown that the new broadband CP antenna achieves an axial ratio (AR) bandwidth of 55p.c (one.69–3.0 GHz) for $mathbfAR mathbf15;mathbfdB$, and an antenna gain of half dozen–nine dBi. The new mechanism for circular polarization is described and an experimental verification is presented.
